Taking children to a Turkish hamam

What children pay

Half the adult fare for ages 4 to 10, and nothing at all for under-3s. That applies in all four regions, so a child in Side or Alanya is €10 and a child in Belek or Antalya is €12.50.

There is no separate children's programme and no extra charge for adjusting the session.

Which parts suit a child

• The foam wash — almost universally the favourite part, and the one they talk about afterwards
• The warm marble — in short spells, with a parent alongside
• A light kese — older children usually enjoy it once they know what is coming

Which parts do not

• Long spells in the sauna or steam room — children overheat faster than adults and are worse at noticing it
• The full oil massage — the massage stages are designed for adults
• A firm kese — young skin does not need it and will not thank you

Tell us the ages when you book

This is the one thing that genuinely matters. The booking form has a place for it, and the hamam plans around it: less time in the heat, a gentler scrub, a parent with them at every stage.

A child who arrives unannounced still gets looked after, but the session works better when it is known in advance.

Being realistic about it

A hamam is warm, loud, echoing and quite hands-on. Some children find that wonderful and some find it overwhelming, and you know which yours is better than we do.

If in doubt, bring them, keep the heat sections short, and treat the foam as the main event. Nobody minds a child who decides after ten minutes that they would rather sit in the cool room with a parent.
